I find that while keyboard shortcuts for pen, laser, erase etc work on the full-screen version of the slideshow, they don't work when I have the slideshow confined to a window ("For individual browsing"). To create a list of slide number, print out your presentation as a handout; I choose 9 slides per page. This will display the slides on the entire screen.
